Meet Shaban: A Story of Resilience and Hope
When I first met Shaban, he was just a 12-year-old boy, burdened by circumstances far beyond his years. His mother, living with HIV, struggled to provide for her family and resorted to begging on the streets. Shaban often found himself as part of this painful cycle, used as a means to earn sympathy and money.
But his story didn’t end there. With five little sisters and one younger brother to care for, Shaban took on a role far too big for his young shoulders. Life with their grandmother offered no respite; instead, the children were sent out to knock on doors, begging for food and money just to survive.
When I saw Shaban for the first time, my heart was filled with compassion. There was something about him—a quiet strength, a determination to rise above his circumstances. I decided to step in and help, providing him with school support, food supplies, and, most importantly, a safe place to turn when life felt overwhelming.
Over the years, Shaban has become like family to me. Whenever he faces emotional, physical, or spiritual challenges, he knows my door is always open. Through counseling, mentorship, and unwavering support, I’ve watched him grow into a young man full of potential. Despite the hardships, he remains kind, resourceful, and eager to learn.
Today, Shaban is over 20 years old, and his dream of finishing his education and building a brighter future is still alive. However, financial struggles forced him to drop out of school, and without the right support, his dreams are at risk of fading away.
At Dream Big Initiatives, we recently invited Shaban and his siblings to our Christmas charity event. They received food supplies and school materials, but we know there’s so much more to be done. Shaban needs consistent support to empower him to return to school, where he can pursue a career and a future full of possibilities.
This young man has so much to offer the world. I’ve seen his resilience, his intelligence, and his desire to make a difference not only for himself but also for his siblings. He is determined to break the cycle of poverty and create a better life.
We are reaching out to you—our community, our supporters, and our friends—to help make this a reality for Shaban. Your contribution, big or small, can help him pay for school fees, supplies, and the resources he needs to succeed. Together, we can give Shaban the chance he deserves to reclaim his education and build the future he dreams of.
