Meet Shaban: A Story of Resilience and Hope

When I first met Shaban, he was just a 12-year-old boy, burdened by circumstances far beyond his years. His mother, living with HIV, struggled to provide for her family and resorted to begging on the streets. Shaban often found himself as part of this painful cycle, used as a means to earn sympathy and money.

But his story didn’t end there. With five little sisters and one younger brother to care for, Shaban took on a role far too big for his young shoulders. Life with their grandmother offered no respite; instead, the children were sent out to knock on doors, begging for food and money just to survive.

Spreading Joy and Love at Shalom Center for Street Children

This Christmas, Dream Big Initiatives had the immense privilege of celebrating with the incredible children at Shalom Center for Street Children. This remarkable center provides a safe haven for orphans, children from abusive homes, those rescued from the streets, single mothers facing challenges after early pregnancies, and young girls navigating difficult circumstances.

Our time at the center was heartwarming and inspiring. We listened to their stories, shared words of encouragement, and came together to make this Christmas a truly special day. The event was filled with joy as we enjoyed a festive meal together, shared thoughtful gifts the children had requested, and provided food supplies for the center.

Laughter and excitement filled the air as we danced, played games, and blew balloons with the children, ensuring that every child felt loved, valued, and celebrated. Seeing their smiles and hearing their laughter reminded us of the beauty of giving and the power of kindness.

Dream Big Initiatives visiting Ian’s family

At dreambiginitiatives We support orphanages and underprivileged households with food supplies, cleaning supplies, learning supplies, and clothing and educate them to save their earnings which they can use to improve their household living and allow them to send their children to school.

We recently visited Ian’s family and were able to provide a few much-needed items. Ian and his grandmother are individuals we met a few months ago, and their story deeply moved us. Ian’s grandmother was found on the streets, begging for money to support her family. She is currently unable to work due to health challenges but must care for her grandchildren, as her daughter, Ian’s mother, is unable to provide for the children. At 18 years old, she had to drop out of school due to pregnancy and is now responsible for two young children, relying entirely on her ailing mother.

Despite these hardships, Ian, a bright little boy, dreams of going to school, and his sister deserves the same opportunity. As part of the Dream Big Initiative, we are committed to giving these children the chance for a better future through education. Today, we provided food and cleaning supplies to help them through the next few days, but this family’s needs are ongoing and urgent.

We appeal to your kindness and generosity to help us ensure Ian and his sister can start their education journey.
